Two Little Chicks

This is my blog where I share all of the ridiculously proud moments (and devastating blows) that fill my days as a mother and wife - sickening really. I'm married to a really special guy who is more than I ever imagined. I also have two beautiful little girls who bring light to each day of my life. As of this writing my youngest is 3 1/2 years old. My great big girl is 8 1/2 years old.

Miss Stevetta Prefontaine

Today was the walk-a-thon to raise money for the big girl's school. She has been taking pledges for the last week or so with the goal that her class will win a taco bell party. She got us for 30 bucks and her class may or may not win the party. I could have single handedly sponsored the taco bell party and saved $14.93 but there is no telling a her that after the walk-a-thon pep rally. You remember the type "If everyone in your class raises $5 the class will receive one package of smarties to share among yourselves. But if you each raise $10 you will be the proud owners of a glow in the dark shark shaped eraser, to be used by your class and your class alone. Just think of it, when you write the wrong answer you will now be capable of real time mistake removal. Let's hear it for the glow in the dark shark shaped eraser!" And the crowd goes wild! You get the point - the stakes are high. But it worked because the girl walked 18 laps around the field, which is equivilent to 3 or 4 miles. The girl has never walked that far in her life. I had no idea how motivating a bean and cheese burrito could be. From now on I'm working this one, "You don't think it sounds like fun to clean raccoon poop out from under the house? Well, I'll give you a 59 cent bean and cheese burrito . . . " She won't be able to resist.

Fall River Fish Hatchery

I have been slowly starting to realize that we are country folk now. Each little hint has brought me closer to the truth, the wild rabbits, no recycling, spending $10 on gas to get to the grocery store . . . But today it totally sunk in. Ivy told I needed to fill out her permission slip. To the fish hatchery. To watch fish spawn.

'Cause I'm a Preschooler

It seems our tiniest one has transformed right before our very eyes. It started with her quivering little lip as she sat in the chair at Claire's getting her first piercing. She didn't cry until I told her it was OK and then she only cried for two or three minutes, stopping at the sight of the pink sucker. Oh, the power of the pink sucker!

I know, I want to take a itty bitty little bite out of that ear from time to time as well.

Then there is her newest playground trick, hurling herself toward the earth via the pole, which I'm pretty sure is the leading cause of my anxiety. The first time I was right there with my hands hovering millimeters from her body, just in case. But after 10 or 12 times of her climbing up and sliding down I backed away about 4 inches, I figured she had it.

This past two weeks also meant two birthday party invitations. She has been to parties before but something is different. She doesn't need me right by her side anymore instead she runs around with her friends all big girl like.

But the biggest girl move of all is that she started preschool on Monday. Now let me back track on this for a minute. All of last year when we'd take Ivy to school Rosie would cry and beg me to let her go to school, to just , "Give me a chance!" She loved every minute of volunteering, every lunch we visited and every recess when we'd go and play - right until it was time to leave. I promised her she would be able to go to preschool when we moved but I quickly learned quality preschool has not been made a high priority in Sunriver. Finally Jon and I decided we had to sacrifice and find somewhere for her to to in Bend. After visiting 7 schools we chose Crawmer's Critterz. And so far she loves it! She has quickly made friends with Ula, Delaney and Eloise. She has eaten carrots, a tuna sandwich and pickles. She made a paleontologist head lamp because their focus right now is on dinosaurs. She even has been taking naps! Good times all around!

This month has been a big one for the tiny girl. We are extremely proud of her, sharing her accomplishments with anyone who will listen. It seems she has been listening because the other day she made a friend I the shoe store and introduced herself this way, "My name is Rosie. I'm 3 and a half. I got my ears pierced, I can go down the pole at the park and I'm going to a birthday party - cause I'm a preschooler!"
